Some call it “keeping it real.”. Others call it “one hundo.”. But Cam Newton says staying true to himself and others is called “ñøñFÎČTÎØÑ” – something we’ve seen even more of from the Carolina Panthers quarterback over the past few months. From throwing out not-so-subtle hints at wanting a receiving corps that isn’t comprised of practice squad guys to dropping some nuggets of knowledge and a few expletives on Instagram, Newton has allowed his personality and confidence to shine through this offseason.
One of the unavoidable rites of passage for college kids making the jump to the NFL is the match game. especially more than ever—teams, analysts and fans alike try their damnedest to compare incoming prospects to pros both past and present. With a relatively diminutive 5-foot-11, 202-pound frame, a palpable pro-ready skill set and—in being as forthright as we can be—a lighter skin tone than most at his position, the Carolina Panthers’ rookie makes for a somewhat challenging case.
“Wear your heart on your skin in this life,” renowned novelist and poet Sylvia Plath wrote in her 1977 book Johnny Panic and the Bible of Dreams. And whether or not Brooke Guidebeck is familiar with these famous words once penned by Plath, it’s certainly a creed the long-time Carolina Panthers fan abides by.
There’s no in-between for men’s rompers. You either love the courage and swagger it takes for a guy to wear a floral jumpsuit or you hate it. The same seems to be true for Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. What can’t be disputed, however, is the greatness of the pioneer of the man-romper craze.
This wasn’t how the story was supposed to end for Jerry Richardson – at least in his own mind. Richardson’s tale as the patriarch of the Carolina Panthers can be traced back his early roots, which began in the small town of Spring Hope, N.C. in 1936. He was Carolina born and bred, having attended high school in nearby Fayetteville and moving on to play football a little further south at Wofford College soon after.
His presence alone may have already won over many Carolina Panthers fans, who hadn’t seen much of their last and now disgraced owner in recent years. But it was owner David Tepper’s candor that served as a much-needed breath of fresh air at Bank of America Stadium on Tuesday. Tepper’s words and demeanor spoke volumes during his introductory press conference.
Bill Belichick looks like he’d steal candy from a baby. Literally. As awe-inspiring and just plain glorious as that would be to actually witness, there’s no hard proof of the New England Patriots’ head honcho really swiping sweets from a toddler. There is, however, mounds of evidence on the seven-time Super Bowl champion ransacking talent from numerous NFL franchises.
New Rochelle High School can be an overwhelming place. Between a student body of over 3,330 kids and a campus the size of a small college, you can easily lose your way while navigating through the building. You can’t, however, miss the lingering presence of alumnus Ray Rice. Step foot into the school’s rotunda and take a quick look to your left.
Poor Demar Dotson never had a chance. Lined up on his own 45-yard-line, the offensive guard for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers needed to protect his quarterback for just one yard. One yard would move the chains for the first down and one yard would give the rather stagnant Tampa offense some hope. That hope, however, was immediately run down and squashed (much like Dotson) by an unyielding force.
The 2012 MLB All-Star Game is now less than 24 hours away. In addition to being an X-factor of sorts for the upcoming World Series, the annual exhibition is an extravagant celebration. On this night, we celebrate our players, our cities and most of all, the game of baseball. So why not celebrate the greatest performers in All-Star game history?
When it comes to deciding who the greatest WWE superstar is, everyone has their personal preferences. If you're on the Shawn Michaels train, you cite his big-match ability we've seen so often. Maybe you back up Bret Hart and his unmatched technical skills in the ring. Or perhaps you go a little outside the box and side with Hulk Hogan and his tremendous impact on the industry as a whole.
